MEDUSA - EMBROIDERED CREWNECK

Medusa, the Ancient Greek monster with deadly snakes for hair whose eyes held the power to turn men to stone was eventually beheaded by the Greek hero Perseus, who thereafter used her head, which even in death retained its ability to petrify all onlookers, as a weapon until he gave it to the goddess Athena to place on her shield. Centuries later, in 1597 the famed Italian artist Caravaggio’s fascination with realism and violence would lead to one of the great pieces of art ever created, the Medusa shield painted as a gift to the Grand Duke of Tuscany. A visit to the Uffizi Gallery in Firenze coupled with a love of the embroidery work of Italian high fashion inspired this reimagining of the Medusa as seen through the Death Saves lens. The design has been translated into these beautiful 450,000 stitch count works of art on super soft, cut and sew blanks.
