FRANK FRAZETTA - THE FLIGHT OF ICARUS, AKA: BIRDMAN
This powerful and tragic piece was painted by Frank Frazetta in 1972 based upon the mythological cautionary tale of the attempted escape from the island of Crete by the Labyrinth’s creator Daedalus and his son Icarus. You can feel the energy and power emanating from Frazetta’s unequivocal mastery of the human form and musculature and you can absolutely understand how it could inspire any who laid eyes upon it (including Led Zeppelin years later). The text on the back was inspired by a translation of Charles Baudelaire’s unique interpretation of the Icarus myth in his own life.
